Welcome to The Pineapple Inn - Permanently Closed
The Pineapple Inn, though now permanently closed, once stood as a heartfelt gem nestled along Volcano Road in Mountain View, Hawaii. This intimate bed and breakfast offered more than just lodging; it provided a genuine sense of warmth and community, resonating profoundly with travelers seeking both comfort and connection amidst Hawaii’s lush landscapes.
Guests consistently praised the welcoming nature of hosts Kim and Phoenix, who fostered an atmosphere that felt less like a typical hostel and more like a home away from home. The inn’s clean and simple accommodations showcased thoughtful touches like stunning wood interiors, mini fridges, and ample king-sized beds, creating a cozy environment for couples, families, or groups of friends alike. Accessibility and safety were paramount—contactless entry and an inviting communal space with a TV contributed to a peaceful, secure stay.
Positioned ideally for visitors heading to Volcano National Park or Hilo, The Pineapple Inn offered practical convenience paired with a touch of local charm. Its affiliation with the neighboring Da Beans Green cafe enriched the experience, serving fresh coffee, smoothies, and healthy fare that delighted guests. Many found themselves lingering over raw coffee drinks and wholesome sandwiches, savoring the friendly ambiance and island flavors.
What truly stood out was the inn’s ability to accommodate diverse travelers—from families needing space for a dozen, to solo adventurers craving a heartfelt respite. The heartfelt reviews reveal a place where simplicity met sincerity, creating lasting memories against the backdrop of Hawaii’s natural beauty. Though The Pineapple Inn no longer opens its doors, its spirit lingers in the stories of those it welcomed with open arms.

We found this hostel last minute coming to this side of the island. What an amazing surprise. The hosts were super welcoming, the place was tidy clean and what about the king size bed, WOW !! Would recommend for couple, group of friends or family. It’s more like a bed and breakfast, as it’s link with Da Beans Green cafe next door, but cheaper price then a hostel.
Love the little coffee shop/cafe they have set up next to the hostel. Very welcoming and great food! They have raw coffee drinks, smoothies, juices, sandwiches and all sorts of healthy options. The location is on the way to Volcano National Park or Hilo dependong on your direction. 10/10 Would go again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt so relaxed here we decided to extend our reservation for an extra night. It's a simple hostel, without a front desk, but Kim and Phoenix are welcoming and gracious hostel hosts. Key codes make an easy contactless entry and I felt safe and secure the entire time. There is stunning wood walls, sweet dressers, mini fridges in each room and a communal TV area for relaxing. Coffee and tea are available in the common area as well as a delishious cafe with amazing drinks and food attached. We were very grateful we were able to have our laundry done conveniently on site, saved us time for more exploring on our short trip. This place is the perfect location between the Volcano and Pāhoa and had wonderful laid back vibe. The other guests were very respectful and sweet, sharing lychee, stories and recommendations for the area! We wished we could have stayed longer!!
The owners graciously let my wife, 7 month old daughter and I stay 5 nights here. We loved the house. It has a great vibe to it. Nice local art, a decent location by the volcano, and a nice family run place. We do cosleep with our daughter. So there isn't room for a crib, but the beds are large king sized! We felt very safe the whole time.
What can I say about this Hostel and the owners? AHHHHHMAZING! We were flying to a Church function in Hilo at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Kurtistown and needed a place that will accommodate 6 adults and 6 children. The rooms we had originally booked at Castle Hilo Hotel would have been sufficient for a family of 5, but not too accommodating for 12. Last minute search, and voila! Pele's Hana 'Ana Hostel popped up! I contacted the owner Kimberleigh. She was quick to respond with rooms/dates availability since we were departing Honolulu on Friday, March 24, 2023, for Hilo, with a check-in time of 4 p.m. Our check-out date was Sunday, March 26, 2023, returning home to Honolulu. The second floor (upstairs) sits five (5) bedrooms, common areas (living room with a sectional couch, TV), kitchen, half bathroom, etc. The main suite which is situated on the first floor (main floor) is big enough to accommodate 6-8 people. There are a lot of linens, towels, and not to mention beds. OMG! The pillow-top mattresses made it easy for me to rest! This place does not disappoint! The owners Kimberleigh and Phoenix were hospitable! They made sure we had everything we needed. There is Wi-fi as well. There are smart TVs, fans, and evrything to keep your little ones entertained. One thing though, there is one full bath with a shower on the main floor. So, if you have a big family as I had. Having a shower schedule is very important! :) There is a beautiful Cafe, Da Beans, attached to this lovely Hostel. We didn't have the time to eat there since we already had a full agenda. A big mahalo to you, Kimberleigh for getting your beautiful place ready for my family. The colorful & vibrant fresh flowers, and all the amazing paintings. Thank you, for your hospitality. We will return, and on the next trip, we will eat at the cafe. Mahalo nui loa, The Pou Family from Pearl City, HI
